December for club participants.  Regardless of whether your child chooses to do a project or not, we invite all parents

and students to come and see the projects their peers are presenting.

Meeting 4      Building Bridges & Feeding Families

*Planet Science Club will be using Lego Engineering kits to build bridges, but we need some weights to test our

bridges.  We thought a canned food drive would be perfect!  Each child should bring in 3 (or more) canned goods.                                We’ll use our cans as weights to test the strength of our bridges, and then afterward, we’ll donate the goods to the                              Penfield Ecumenical Food Shelf!  Learning about science and helping our community is a win-win!

**Planet Science is always after school from 3:30-4:30pm unless otherwise noted**

My child goes to the YMCA after school, how will that work?

Please indicate on the registration form if your child attends the YMCA Afterschool Program and gets picked up AFTER 4:30pm.  In that case, when we are wrapped up at 4:30pm, a Planet Science volunteer will bring your child to the YMCA Program where you can pick your child up as usual.

What if I do not want to use an online payment method?

Unfortunately, the only way to register for the club is through online registration via the Scribner PTA website.  We have opted to keep it this way in order to be able to track registrations and cap the program.  In previous years, we used to allow paper registrations via backpack mail, but that system is unreliable, and their is no way to cap the first 70 registrants.  Additionally, we have had registrations get lost in backpacks, in the office, or in classrooms.

What is the refund policy?

Planet Science is funded partially through the Scribner Road PTA, and partially through the club fee. These fees are used for hiring presenters, purchasing supplies, purchasing snacks, and ordering T-shirts for all participants. We begin making those purchases as soon as registration closes. For this reason, we have to limit refunds if you or your child decides you no longer wish to participate in Planet Science.

- Registrations that are withdrawn by October 21st will be refunded in full.

- Registrations that are withdrawn after October 21st, but prior to the first club meeting will be refunded at 50% of the club fee.

- Registrations that are withdrawn after the first club meeting are not eligible for a refund.

- Planet Science fees are not pro-rated. If you sign your child up for Planet Science, but have to miss any of the scheduled activities, there are not partial refunds given for missed dates.

- There is no additional fee for participation in the Science Fair.

If I have more than one student in Planet Science, do I have to volunteer for multiple dates?

If you have more than one child in the program, you only have to sign up for one volunteer spot.

Do I have to send a note on the day of Planet Science so my child's teacher knows that he/she will not be getting on the bus?

The Scribner policy for dismissal to after school clubs changed last year.  The policy now states that parents need to send a note with their child in order to allow them to stay for a club. We have integrated a dismissal permission into the registration page this year, and these dates will be printed out and provided to the school office.

If your child is absent from school on a club date, or if there is a reason that you are unable to have your child stay, please send a note or call the school office to communicate the change in plans. This way we won't panic and think that your child was accidentally sent home on the bus to an empty house.

Also, if your child is being picked up from Planet Science by someone other than you, please email us at scribnerplanetscience@gmail.com to communicate that plan.  Otherwise, we cannot release your child to another parent.  This is the same as the school dismissal policy.  We thank you in advance for your cooperation.
